Fresh Buko at the Philippine Tarsier Foundation

13 Mar

On one day of our vacation we went to the Philippine Tarsier Foundation to look at tarsiers:

After seeing looking at the tarsiers, which are very unusual animals, we were planning on going further to see the Chocolate Hills. But before we went back to the car there was a sign with: “Fresh Buko”. Buko is young coconut and after walking around the foundation in the heat of The Phillipines, I was ready for some fresh coconut juice. After buying a coconut for around 1 euro they opened the young coconut right in front of you and gave it to you in a handy reed bag:

With a straw all the fresh coconut could be drunk and with a spoon the young coconut flesh could be scraped out of the coconut:

On a hot summer day, some young coconut juice is really refreshing!
